Weekends are free to relax and to explore the local area. Zanzibar is known for its sandy white beaches and unique culture. While here, don’t miss Stone Town, a place that is known for its mazes and spices (take a spice tour for sure!). Another must is a visit to Prison Island, where you can spot dolphins and marine life. Travel north or east of the island for some of the best and cleanest beaches in the world and enjoy the Indian Ocean at its best!
You will be staying in a traditional and comfortable volunteer house in the village of Fuoni. The house has multiple bedrooms, communal bathrooms, a kitchen and one sitting room - suitable for enjoying the company of your fellow participants. Please note that all rooms (2-8 volunteers per room) are single gender, and that there are no hot showers, fans/air-conditioning, laundry service, or Wifi. You can purchase a local SIM-card locally.
You will easily find a few small local stores nearby that sell snacks, drinks and any basic supplies you might need during your stay. There are also ATM's, banks, shops, a local pharmacy, etc.

Our transfer coordinator will meet you outside the Airport’s main arrival hall holding a sign with either your name or “The Green Lion”, either upon your arrival or if not possible, at the following times.
Arrive on Saturday* or Sunday between 06:00 - 21:00.
*Saturday arrivals need to book one extra night at our accommodation.
Please note that in some cases we may need to wait for several participants to arrive before the group leaves the airport.
***If you arrive well ahead of time, make sure you return to your meeting point at the appointed time as we may not be able to wait on any late arrivals.***
What to do, if...
...you are waiting at the airport but can’t find your transfer coordinator?
Make sure that you have passed customs and are at the meeting point as described above. If you are there already, it is essential that you stay where you are and wait to avoid further confusion.
It is most likely your driver has just got stuck in traffic. But if after waiting at least 20 minutes you still can’t find your driver, try calling our transfer Coordinator (phone number below).
If they do not answer on the first try, please keep trying.
...you can’t reach the transfer coordinator on the phone.
Please send them a text message and wait at the meeting point. They might be busy and will get back to you shortly. If for any reason they don’t get back to you, please try again. If 30 minutes passes, you can try your country manager’s phone number (also below).
...you don’t get an answer on your messages
Stay at the meeting point. We will meet you there in any case.
