During your stay, you will be accommodated in a variety of lodges as you tour Southern Africa, but your home base will be the award-winning Lidwala Lodge in Ezulwini Valley and then Tilak Lodge in Tofo, Mozambique. In Kruger National Park you will be staying in dome tents in a well set up camp, mattresses and pillows are provided in the tents but you will need to bring a sleeping bag.
Lidwala Lodge
Lidwala Lodge provides comfortable accommodation with a friendly vibe in a gorgeous convenient setting with a spectacular view across the valley. You will be accommodated in a dorm room with 4-6 single gender bunk beds with communal bathroom facilities. Bed, mattress, sheet and pillows will be provided, but note if you plan to go on tours on home stays during your time in Eswatini then a sleeping bag may be required. Lidwala Lodge is surrounded by a beautiful garden, with an outdoor sitting area, TV, and a communal kitchenette to prepare snacks & coffee. Often you can see monkeys roaming around the garden and the many plants attract a wide range of birds. Your rooms are located just steps away from the All Out Africa office and a communal swiming pool (perfect for a dip after projects!).
Tilak Lodge
Tilak Lodge is in a perfect location, nestled at the top of the sand dunes overlooking the spectacular Tofo Bay. Accommodation is in chalets with a traditional thatched roof and dorm style accommodation. The chalets have electricity and running water and feature open living areas and ample room to relax outside. The chalets sleep multiple people in sturdy bunk beds, each bunk in it's own curtained cubicle and also containing a storage locker per person. Bring a padlock if you wish to be able to secure your belongings. Beds, mattresses, mosquito nets, sheets and pillows are provided. There are shared toilet and shower facilities and communal outdoor living spaces. There's also a swimming pool with bar and relaxation area.
Return transfer is included. At OR Tambo Airport, you will be met by All Out Africa staff members who will who will transfer you by road from Johannesburg to Backpackers Connection. It is approximately 18 minutes from OR Tambo Airport. Please ensure your flight arrives BEFORE 12:00.
Airport transfer is provided if you are leaving on the designated departure day. The departure transfer bus will depart from Lidwala Lodge 07:30, and the transfer takes approximately 4.5 hours to reach Johannesburg airport. We suggest booking a late afternoon flight departing AFTER 16:00 in case of unforeseen traffic delays.
You will receive 3 meals a day when joining an All Out Africa experience (lunch on travel days is not included.). These meals are eaten together on the communal outdoor area. Breakfast is self-service from a selection of items including cereals, fruit, yogurt, bread and spreads. Lunch might sometimes be a packed lunch to take with you for the day, or usually a cooked meal at the Lodge. Dinner is a cooked meal, types of dishes served include pasta, stir-fry, braai (BBQ) and stew. You may be asked to assist with preparation or meal clean up.
Vegetarians and most food allergies can be catered for. In order to fully support you during your experience, please advise us at time of booking if you have any food allergies or preferences, so we can cater for these in our meal plans. We will do our best but be prepared your food selection may not be as varied as other participants. If your food allergies/preference are quite restrictive (for example, gluten free), we may require you to pay an additional fee to allow us to cater for you. We will try our best to accommodate your requests, but we cannot guarantee it.
Free Time
There is some free time for you to relax or to see more of the scenery and activities! You can also add one of the following to your adventure of a lifetime (at own cost):
- Internationally recognized Open Water or Advanced Dive Course
- Bushwalk in Kruger, to see some of the smaller creatures that reside in Kruger up-close and personal
- Zip lining weekend through the mountains, waterfalls and gorges of Malolotja Nature Reserve, Eswatini
